'To hatch' is to come out of an egg - you don't know if the chicken inside the egg is alive or not. (One of many alternatives is: Don't sell the skin until you have caught the bear.)

Don't cross the bridge until you come to it.

مُستقبل سے نہ ڈرو

There is no point in worrying now about things that might (or might not) happen in the future.


He that has no children brings them up well.

دوسروں کو نصیحت ،آپ میاںفصیحت

It is easy to give advice when you are not suffering from the problem yourself. (It is easy to tell other people how they should raise their children when you have none yourself.)

If you are not ambitious you will not be rich or successful.

'seek' means 'look for'

More haste, less speed.

تیز چلو گے جلد مرو گے

If you do things in a hurry, you will make mistakes and have to start again. In the end this will make you slower.

If you go to a foreign place, you must behave in the same way as the local people do.


Anger punishes itself.

غُصہ کرنے والا اپنے آپ کو تکلیف دیتا ہے

If you are angry you will do something stupid that will only hurt yourself.


Appearances are deceptive.

ظاہری خوبصورتی دھوکہ دیتی ہے

You can't judge the value of someone or something by what he/she/it looks like

An alternative is: 'Appearances can be deceptive'.

You can't tell a book by its cover.
